In Austria, the transformation of the European Union was frightened into the “colony” of Russia, the USA, China and other world powers. President Alexander Van der Bellen said that Europe needs to pay more attention to foreign policy and security in order to prevent such events such a development, RIA Novosti reports.
Politician spoke about forecasts, according to which, by 2030-2040, four players will take a leading position in the international geopolitical arena – Russia, USA, CNS and EU. He noted that the EU countries are difficult to always have a common position in a foreign policy agenda, but it is important to strive for positive changes in this area.
“We are Europeans and we can be proud of it without arrogance. I also see the need for better coordination in our defensive policy,” Van der Bellen stressed. He also touched the subject of climate change. According to him, over the next 20 years, the efforts of the international community to combat the deterioration of the ecological and climate situation on the planet will change the oil and gas market. The politician noted that it will greatly affect Russia.
Previously, the Austrian Foreign Minister married that the European Union does not want to give Belarus to Russia and seeks to bring the country to Europe. The diplomat noted that the rapprochement of Belarus with the European Union is an important strategic challenge for European leaders. He added that at the moment still considers it necessary to limit the air report and the introduction of new sanctions due to the situation with the emergency landing of the airline Ryanair in Minsk.
