In Russia, new restrictions on the use of palm oil may appear. This was written by the speaker of the State Duma Vyacheslav Volodin in his Telegram.
“Many talk about the dangers of palm oil, but, no matter how paradoxically, there are no initiatives to limit its use in food,” he said. According to Volodin, raising VAT rates up to 20 percent did not solve the problem to reduce its use in food production. As part of the struggle against palm oil, technical regulations for food products may be changed, the State Duma speaker said.
Earlier it was reported that Russia was purchased by palm oil and its factions, significantly increased product imports. It has grown in January 2021 by 18.8 percent in annual terms (up to 92.9 thousand tons). Compared to the previous month, the indicator jumped by 29.7 percent.
In January, palm oil on the world market has risked in price. The price of it reached a maximum over the past 10 years (961 dollar per ton, growth since last spring exceeded 100 percent).
Due to the fall in income, the Russians began to go to cheese substitutes. Cheese products are third cheaper, in their production it is possible to use vegetable fats, such as palm oil.
