French wine turned out to be threatened due to cold

The production of wine in France turned out to be threatened due to cold weather in Europe. According to Reuters, caused by frost damage can reduce production by a third, and losses are estimated at 1.5-2 billion euros (2.4 billion dollars).

In the organization FranceAgrimer, which is engaged in agriculture, concluded that April frosts in the region were exceptional. Especially strongly plants were injured due to the fact that the cold was warming before the cold, which accelerated their growth. The most affected wine-growing regions included Burgundy, Languedoc (it includes Bordeaux) and Aquitaine.

Frosts came to France in early April, the vineyards, fruit gardens and crops of sugar beet were strongly injured. Moroz touched 10 of 13 regions of the country

Earlier in April, the International Viticulture and Winemaking Organization (OIV) published a report stating that at the end of last year, global wine consumption was recorded record. This is due to the restriction of the work of bars and restaurants and a decrease in the number of tourist trips against the background of the coronavirus pandemic. Most of all drinking drinks decreased in China (minus 17.4 percent) and South Africa (minus 19.4 percent).

Abnormal cold this winter brought losses and American farmers. Only in Texas, damages from frost and snowfall were estimated at 600 million dollars. This affected the production of citrus (230 million), animal husbandry (228 million) and growing vegetables (150 million). In particular, the farmers in the Rio Grande Valley may have lost more than 60 percent of their grapefruit harvests and almost the entire harvest of oranges. In addition, due to the cold, newborns were killed, and the new selection will not appear for a few more months.
