Foreign Ministry commented on US statements about Russian interference in elections

The statements of the US intelligence about Russia’s interference in the elections are informational stuff that is not supported by anything. This was told by the Deputy Foreign Minister of the Russian Federation Sergei Ryabkov, he is quoted by RIA Novosti.

“There is nothing else but reasoning in the spirit of the fact that, apparently, behind certain actions that do not suit the American side, there are structures related to Russia,” the diplomat said. In his opinion, in the work of the American state apparatus “a substitution of concepts” has taken place a long time ago: reports are adjusted to fit predetermined guidelines.

Ryabkov also commented on the possible introduction of new sanctions against Moscow. He stressed that this is now the “norm of life” in Washington, which the Russian side treats as bad weather. The Deputy Foreign Minister recalled that such stories have happened dozens of times since 2011.

On March 16, US intelligence released a report in which it accused Russia and Iran of interfering in the 2020 presidential election. Washington accuses Moscow of trying to support the re-election of ex-President Donald Trump, discredit US leader Joe Biden and “sow discord” in American society. At the same time, Iran also allegedly “made attempts to influence the elections in the United States” and tried to prevent Trump’s victory. In this regard, the United States has already announced sanctions against countries.
