Britain responded to threats of European Union Block Vaccine Exports from COVID-19

United Kingdom Defense Minister Ben Wallace responded to the threats of the European Commission (EC) to block the export of vaccine from coronavirus to other countries due to breakdowns of supplies to Europe, writes Evening Standart.

According to him, any attempts of Brussels prevent the supply of drugs from COVID-19 to Britain will be “counterproductive”. “It would be an adult if the ECs and some European leaders did not engage in rhetoric, but would recognize the obligations that we all carry,” said Wallace.

he added that in case of adoption of such a decision, the European Union is waiting for reputational costs for trade and diplomacy. “It will be very difficult for them to change the situation in the short term,” the minister warned.

Earlier, the head of the European Commission (EC) Ursula von der Lyien threatened to the company Astrazeneca banned to export its vaccine from coronavirus from the European Union to other states due to a sharp reduction in deliveries. According to her, by the end of the first quarter, the manufacturer put only 30 percent of the vaccine volume prescribed in the contract.

In late February, it was reported that Europe would not receive tens of millions of doses of Astrazeneca vaccine in the second quarter of this year. One of the reasons is called a fire on the drug production plant in the Indian city of Pune.
