Japanese PM apologizes for son’s dinner with officials

Japanese Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga, during a debate in parliament, apologized for the inappropriate participation of his son Seigo Sugi in a dinner with officials from the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications. This is reported by TASS on Monday, February 22nd.

“I apologize for my son’s involvement in the actions that resulted in officials breaking the code of conduct,” he said.

According to the prime minister, he never discussed with his son his work in the production company Tohokushinsha Film.

According to media reports, Seigo Suga and his colleagues in 2020 dined with at least 11 representatives of the department, paying bills for their meals. Meanwhile, officials in Japan are prohibited from receiving gifts from interested parties.

The Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications issues broadcast licenses that are required for production companies such as Tohokushinsha Film.
