NATO wanted to increase activity near borders of Russia

NATO wanted to increase funding for military activity near the borders of Russia. This was stated by the secretary general of the alliance Jens Stoltenberg, his words are quoted by TASS.

The issue will be discussed during a video conference of NATO defense ministers scheduled for February 17-18.

“I intend to propose [via videoconference] to expand funding for our core containment and defense activities,” Stoltenberg said. According to him, this will strengthen the deployment of forces and combat groups of the alliance on its eastern flank, that is, near the borders of Russia.

In September 2020, the Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces Valery Gerasimov spoke about the strengthening of NATO 20 kilometers from the borders of Russia. He added that the reports about the aggressive behavior of the Russian Federation, which are disseminated in the alliance, are false.
