British Embassy explained arrival of diplomats at trial on Navalny

The British Embassy explained the arrival of diplomats to the trial in the case of Alexei Navalny (he is the founder of the Anti-Corruption Foundation, included by the Ministry of Justice in the register of organizations performing the functions of a foreign agent). RIA Novosti reports.

According to the diplomatic mission, her presence at trials is a common practice. The same explanation was made at the Latvian Embassy.

“This is not a unique case, since in Russia, as in other countries, diplomats can observe the processes of the court. If this were not possible, foreign diplomats would not be allowed into the courtroom, and, naturally, we would accepted “, – noted in the Latvian diplomatic mission.

RIA Novosti learned that representatives of the embassies of the United States, Germany, Switzerland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Austria, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Canada, Poland and Norway also came to the trial. The Polish and Swiss embassies each sent two people to the Moscow City Court.

On February 2, a hearing is being held there to cancel the suspended sentence in the Yves Rocher case and replace it with the real one Navalny. The UFSIN asks to replace the conditional sentence of 3.5 years of imprisonment with a real one – in a colony. Navalny was charged with 60 violations of public order after a suspended sentence.

Navalny was detained on January 17 immediately after returning from Germany, where he was undergoing rehabilitation. He fell into a coma on August 20, 2020, he became ill during the flight from Tomsk to Moscow. On August 22, the Russian was taken to a German clinic, where doctors announced that he had been poisoned with a substance from the Novichok group. Russian doctors did not find any traces of poison during the examination of the patient.
