Rogozin assessed Pentagon’s plans to protect NASA’s lunar bases

The militarization of the Moon and research on the Earth’s satellite are unacceptable. This was announced on Twitter by the head of the state corporation “Roscosmos” Dmitry Rogozin.

So he reacted to the news from The Wall Street Journal that the Pentagon could become a possible defender of future NASA bases on the Moon. According to the newspaper, the departments are stepping up cooperation between civil and military projects due to the growing threat from Moscow and Beijing, which “are aimed at challenging American space interests.

In December 2020, US Director of National Intelligence John Ratcliffe said Russia was not a “responsible space power.” According to him, Russia, especially recently, behaved in outer space in a threatening and provocative manner, which created a potentially dangerous situation. Ratcliffe noted that Russia had launched a satellite that carried out maneuvers near the American government apparatus. In addition, Russia launched a satellite that, according to the US, has signs of space weapons.

Prior to this, the head of the Pentagon, Mark Esper, accused China and Russia of allegedly “militarizing space. They deployed weapons there. Therefore, we need to build defense systems,” he said. The minister added that this is necessary, among other things, to protect non-military vehicles in orbit. According to him, the US Army should strengthen “the capabilities of its navies, as well as capabilities in cyberspace.”
