UN employee accused of sexual harassment

UN Envoy for Digital Cooperation Fabrizio Ochschilda was accused of sexual harassment, abuse of power and discrimination. This was stated by the Secretary General of the organization, Antonio Guterres, according to the profile magazine PassBlue.

Ochschild has been reported by several women who have worked with him on the UN 75th anniversary project over the past year.

The UN Secretary General instructed the Internal Oversight Service to conduct a comprehensive investigation into a Chilean citizen who has worked at the UN since 1988. He has been sent on administrative leave pending a check.

Guterres pledged that the UN has zero tolerance for sexual harassment or other forms of harassment. He expressed the hope that the investigation will be carried out quickly thanks to the established powerful system to identify such violations. If the charges are confirmed, due process will follow, the organization’s secretary general said.

In 2005, the director of the UN electoral department, Karina Perelli, was fired due to sexual harassment of employees and insults. In addition, the department’s management is suspected of illegally using the organization’s funds for personal gain.
