American MLRS will launch a swarm of “killers” of Russian S-400

American combat vehicles of a multiple launch rocket system (MLRS) long-range High Mobility Artillery Rocket System (HIMARS) may be able to launch promising Precision Strike Missile (PrSM) and other surface-to-surface missiles, writes The Drive. p>

According to the American publication, the US Army “wants to study proposals to load such PrSM and other missiles with submunitions that can work together as a network swarm.” The Drive writes that the corresponding launcher must be unmanned. The publication reminds that work on the creation of PrSM is carried out by the Lockheed Martin corporation, and in the future, its anti-ship derivative, known as the Land-Based Anti-Ship Missile (LBASM), should be developed.

In December 2019, Brigadier General John Rafferty announced that in the European theater of hypothetical military operations, the PrSM surface-to-surface missile being developed for the US Army would become the “killer” of Russian air defense systems (for example, the S-400 Triumph) while in the Pacific, Chinese warships will be targeted.

In November 2020, Forbes magazine reported that, as part of training exercises, the US military redeployed two HIMARS combat vehicles to Romania, after which they fired several missiles into the air and returned the installations to Germany.

According to Defense News, currently the maximum range of PrSM is 499 kilometers, but this figure can be increased to 550 kilometers, since the United States and Russia are not bound by the Shorter and Medium Range Missile Treaty.
