Big Change participants drew dreams on Spacesuit

The “Spacesuit” art project is completing its earthly journey in Veliky Ustyug and Vologda. On Tuesday, January 19, 2021, participants of the All-Russian competition for schoolchildren “Big Break”, together with children with cancer and other diseases from Veliky Ustyug, will take part in the creation of a special spacesuit “Dreamer”.

Its peculiarity is that it will be made from drawings of children and adults who are faced with cancer. As you know, a dream that has reached the stars will surely come true, and the most cherished dream of our little artists, their parents and doctors is complete recovery. It is very symbolic that the earthly journey of the “Dreamer” Spacesuit before the flight into space ends in the Russian north, and even in one of the most magical places on earth – the patrimony of Father Frost. We believe that this will further increase the power of desires of our little artists, and the most important dream of our artists, organizers and doctors is health and peace.

Participants of the “Big Change” competition will also sign postcards with good wishes, which the UNITY team will give to children at the hospital in Vologda. It is great that the guys from Big Change will take part in the magical cosmic cycle of good and, with their wishes, will inspire children from Vologda to recover. To date, children and adults from 8 countries and 16 cities have drawn dreams on the Spacesuit. The project has visited Russia, Germany, France, Great Britain, Belgium, Switzerland, Armenia, Zambia. Due to the coronavirus quarantine, the UNITY team received dreams from Serbia and the United States, which the artists will carefully transfer to the Dreamer Spacesuit. It’s great that children who cannot draw on the Spacesuit due to restrictions on the movement of the team also have the opportunity to send their dreams into space.

The Skafander art project was created several years ago by astronaut Nicole Stott and artist Ian Sayen. Since then, 3 space suits have already been sent into space – including “Pobeda”, in the creation of which Russian children from Moscow, Yaroslavl, Lipetsk and American Houston participated. The Pobeda spacesuit recently returned from the International Space Station, where he spent 138 days, and the Hero of Russia, Roskosmos cosmonaut Alexander Misurkin dedicated his record spacewalk to such an important project. The mission of the project is to draw the attention of the international community to the problem of oncological diseases, to unite people who have faced this problem, to give them courage and hope for recovery. This year, for the first time in the history of the project, residents of Veliky Ustyug and Vologda will be able to send their drawings into space.

In Russia, the organizer of the project was the social movement “Unity” with the active participation of the State Corporation “Roscosmos”, cosmonauts of the Roscosmos detachment, RSC Energia, TsNIIMash and NPP “Zvezda”. In Veliky Ustyug and Vologda, the project partners are the All-Russian competition for schoolchildren “Big Break”, “Father Frost’s land”, the Dobro charity foundation in Veliky Ustyug, the Good People charity foundation.
